Here for any & all things women's sports
A. Campbell Burke
I'm glad you're here!
For as long as I remember, sports have been a huge part of my life. My earliest memory with women's sports was watching Becky Hammon play for the San Antonio Stars as a kid. She became the reason I wanted to play in the WNBA (plot twist I was terrible at basketball). Then she started coaching for the San Antonio Spurs, and my whole world changed. Seeing Hammon in a role no woman ever held, made me reevaluate so much of what I knew about women in sports.
I won't sit here and say that I am the poster child for supporting women's sports, because I'm not. It wasn't until late 2021 that I really dove into them. My life was suddenly taking a turn. I had just transferred universities and realized that I didn't want to be a teacher. One late September night, I was watching an NFL football game, and I had a realization. Sports. The future hadn't made itself clear, but I had finally found a passion again.
It was too late in my college career to change majors, so I stuck with History and dedicated any free time in my schedule to Sport Management classes. Now, three years later, I've graduated with my masters & started a new job.. I've worked with college and professional sports. I am a published sports journalist, and falling in love with the industry even more every day. If you told September 2021 Campbell that she'd be here, she never would have believed you.
I am deeply passionate about women's sports from basketball & soccer to gymnastics & lacrosse. I have experience in corporate partnerships, community engagement, marketing & journalism. It is my dream to work for a professional women's team & help change the world of women's sports.
Project Spotlight:
SportsPro Hackathon
In February four classmates & I participated in the 2025 SportsPro Hackathon. We competed against universities from across the world in a 3-day challenge. The focus was on the Triple Bottom Line: People, Planet, & Profit. Our challenge was to build a sustainable partnership with an organization called Street Child United & the FIFA Women's World Cup. Our group built a three phase plan, building off of the Street Child World Cup and through the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup.
First, Grassroots United, a series of tournaments hosted in SCU communities. Second, Kickstart Mentors, a mentorship program connecting unhoused girls with soccer industry professionals, including opportunities for Brazil's participants to be at the 2027 Women's World Cup. Third, a Netflix documentary series detailing our first two initiatives to be released following the 2027 Women's World Cup.
Some teammates and I woke up at 4:30am to catch the live announcement & find out that our team won! Now we are heading to London for SportsPro Live to present out pitch! This opportunity was one of the most unique things I have ever gotten to take part in. It was a privilege to represent Seattle University at the competition and to continue to represent them in London this April!
